Starwhals is an all girls team in cooperation with the Minneapolis Titans and Edgecumbe. Games are full-ice and has referees. Most players have played hockey before but some simply have experience skating. While this level is slightly more serious, it still focuses on fun and flexibility. Starwhals are ages 8 to 10.

Starwhals begins in October and ends in early March. There are typically 2 to 3 practices a week. Most indoor practices are 1/2 ice with another LP hockey team. When outdoor ice is available, practices will move to Langford Park. 

The Starwhals play a District 2 schedule against metro area teams so travel is minimal. Games are full ice and include at least 1 referee. Wins and losses are reported and the season concludes with an end-of-season District 2 tournament.

Indoor practices and home games are held at Oscar Johnson (Snelling ave and Energy Park Dr). This is just south of the fair grounds.

Away games are at other Ken Yakel Arena (West-side St Paul), Augsburg University and Northeast Arena.

When the outdoor ice is available, practices will be held at the Langford Park Rec center outside.

Starwhals are expected to have all the necessary hockey equipment seen below. If you are in need of equipment, check with Langford Park Rec center as they have a lot of donated equipment available for use. Otherwise, Play it again Sports is a good place to get inexpensive gear. Players receive both a home and away game jersey to use for the year.

Starting August 1 2024, players competing in youth, girls, high school or junior hockey within USA Hockey are required to wear neck laceration protectors (NLPs) for all games and practices.

Mouth guards are required and jock/Jill straps are HIGHLY recommended.
