The Mite program is in the second level of a hockey program but many players are new to the sport and still learning how to skate. The schedule may include some more dates, the program still maintains a family first attitude. Players are from 6 to 8.

The Mites begins in mid to late October and ends in February. Many practices are on weekends and many times the Mites will share the ice with the Mini-Mites (1/2 ice each). Indoor practices are an hour. When the weather allows Mites will practice outside at Langford Park. Usually around mid to late December.

Mites typically have around 20 indoor ice sessions with 6-8 set aside for home-ice scrimmages against other Mite squads. Mites also play 6-8 away-ice scrimmages at other rinks throughout the metro area. The scrimmages, are played 3 v 3 on cross-ice or 1/2 ice.

In January, the Mites (and MiniMites) host a Jamboree at the Langford Park Rec center. This is part of the Winter Classic. The Mites may have one weekend tournament. Potentially out of the Metro area.

Indoor practices and home games are held at Oscar Johnson (Snelling ave and Energy Park Dr). This is just south of the fair grounds.

There may be a couple of games at other metro-area rinks.

When the outdoor ice is available, practices will be held at the Langford Park Rec center outside.

Mites are expected to have all the necessary hockey equipment seen below. This can be done inexpensively. First, check with Langford Park Rec center. They have a lot of donated equipment available for use. If you would like to purchase equipment, start with used. Go to Play it again Sports.

Starting August 1 2024, players competing in youth, girls, high school or junior hockey within USA Hockey are required to wear neck laceration protectors (NLPs) for all games and practices.

Mouth guards and jock/Jill straps are are optional for Mites.

Players receive both a home and away game jersey to use for the year.

The Mite program is one of the most affordable option in town. Using outdoor ice whenever possible keeps the costs down.

Langford Park is one of 11 initial pilot Associations in the whole state who were selected to be part of the MN Wild Foundation "Skate It Forward" program.

For all players under age 8 playing and playing their first year of hockey - the Skate It Forward program will pay their fee. During registration, check the box for "Skate It Forward" to apply.
